The Job
Gennev seeks an experienced and dedicated Referral Coordinator to join our clinical operations team. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience in a similar role, proficiency with Athenahealth (EMR), and a passion for providing exceptional patient care. As a Referral Coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing patient referrals to ensure seamless access to our service options.
Responsibilities
Referral Management:
- Coordinate, manage, and track patient referrals, ensuring timely and accurate processing and communication to patients and the patient care team.
- Work closely with healthcare providers to facilitate referrals for specialty care, diagnostic tests, and other medical services.
- Verify patient insurance information and bridge the gap to support the Medical Assistant team to obtain necessary authorizations for referred services.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and external medical offices to coordinate care for patients.
- Provide general administrative support to the clinic, including scheduling, data entry, and other tasks as assigned.
Patient Communication:
- Reach out to patients via phone, email, or other communication platforms to schedule referral appointments.
- Provide patients with information regarding their referrals, including instructions for preparing for appointments.
- Address patient questions and concerns about the referral process in a courteous and professional manner.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all referral activities in the Athenahealth EMR system.
- Ensure all referral documentation complies with clinic policies and regulatory requirements.
- Track the status of referrals and follow up with patients and providers as needed to ensure completion.
Quality Improvement:
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the referral process.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement best practices to streamline referral operations.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; degree in healthcare administration or related field preferred but not required
- At least three years of experience in a referral coordination role, preferably within a women's health clinic or similar healthcare setting
- Proficiency with Athenahealth EMR system is required
- Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and other healthcare software applications
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently in a virtual, remote setting
- Comfortable using virtual communication tools and platforms for daily work activities
